On Wednesday June 5, the eighth grade group guidance curriculum culminated in the Career Financial Fair.  Throughout the group guidance course, students have explored their interests and career possibilities.  Taking this career exploration a step further, they determine what a starting salary may consist of in that career and now have to manage the demands of life on that salary.  Through the fair, students must visit tables such as housing, food, clothing, student loans, temptations and more.  Additionally, they have to visit the "wheel of fortune/misfortune" where the unplanned expenses may come into play.  This is a great event for students to learn what it is like to manage finances as an adult.

This event is only possible due to the hard work of the guidance/school counseling department at GMS.  They were supported by volunteer parents, businesses, and community members, as well as students from Smithfield High School's Academy of Finance CTE program.

We'd like to especially express our gratitude to:

Fidelity Investments

Eric Anderson, HomeSmart Realty

Timothy F. Kane, Attorney at Law

Jamie Perrotti of Detailed Destinations Travel Agency
