#Engage, Energize, & Educate

January 3rd

Dear Families,

We were thrilled to welcome students and staff back yesterday. It’s always so exciting to hear how students enjoyed their time off.

During the break, our custodians were busy deep cleaning the school.  The hallway floors were mopped and waxed.  There was also some painting completed.  With the many viruses going around, our custodians have been cleaning door knobs and heavy traffic areas daily.

While the importance of attendance is at the forefront of all schools, we want to remind everyone of the importance of staying healthy to ensure our children have the best learning experience possible.

Here are a few simple steps to help us all stay well:

  • Hand Washing:  Encourage your child to wash their hands regularly, especially before eating and after coughing or sneezing.  It’s a simple but powerful way to stay healthy.

  • Feeling Unwell?  If your child is experiencing a fever, vomiting, or other symptoms, please keep your child home to rest and recover.  Returning to school when healthy helps protect others and ensure your child is ready to learn. encouraging families to remind their children to wash their hands after using the restroom and as needed to reduce the spread of germs.

Here is Mrs. Traverse's Web Page .

A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Ross, Mrs. MJ, Mr. Marino, and Mrs. Clapprood for their efforts in supporting the mission of the Feinstein Foundation.  We received notification  that our school has been awarded $5,000. grant for participating in both our Feinstein Jr. Scholar Pantry & Feinstein Jr. Scholar KindnessTree grant programs!

Everyday Speech

In fifth grade, Unit 2 has the following focus:

Self-Management is the tool we use to set and achieve personal and educational goals.

After completing this unit, students should be able to:

  • Identify factors that cause stress both positive and negative

  • Identify physical reactions to stress (e.g., increased energy and alertness, increased heart rate and respiration, sweaty palms, red face, etc.)

  • Recognize emotional reactions to stress

  • Reflect on the possible consequences before expressing an emotion

  • Practice strategies to reduce stress (e.g., talking to a friend or trusted adult, considering what led to these feelings, physical exercise)

  • Define a SMART goal
