Warm weather

Hello OCRS families,

I hope that you have enjoyed the extra long Labor Day/Election Day weekend! As I'm sure that you are aware, the forecast for the remainder of this week is for hot and humid weather. We want to make sure that students are prepared to be as comfortable and safe as possible.

Students should wear cool and comfortable clothing

In preparation for the heat, students should wear cool and comfortable clothing to school. Students may want to bring a sweatshirt with them for the early morning, but summer clothing that still adheres to the elementary school dress code is strongly encouraged.

Students should bring a water bottle

All students should bring a water bottle with them to school. This is something that most of our students already do on a daily basis, so it's not something out of their normal routine. We always have water bottle refilling stations on each floor for students to use.

Partnering with Smithfield Emergency Management Agency

The entire district is partnering with the Smithfield Emergency Management Agency to make sure that students and staff are safe at school during the heat. Smithfield EMA is lending a cooling station to each of the elementary schools to be available during recess for anyone that needs it. Also, we will consult with the Smithfield EMA to determine if it's too hot to safely go outside for recess each afternoon.

We thank you for your assistance in keeping everyone safe and as comfortable as possible during this hot week!

Mr. Barrette
