Hello OCRS families,
I hope that you are enjoying the long Veteran's Day weekend and that you are taking at least a small amount of time to reflect about the immense contributions that our veterans have made to our country. My own father is a Vietnam veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service and I can't imagine the enormity of the sacrifices that he made for his country during a very difficult time in our nation's history.

Just a quick reminder that there is no school on Monday, 11/11 (Veterans Day) and Thursday, 11/14 (Teacher Professional Development).
Looking for veterans to join our Veterans Day celebration Friday, 11/15
We are planning to have a Veteran's Day school celebration next Friday, 11/15. As part of the celebration, we would like to invite any members of OCRS families (parents, grandparents, etc.) that are veterans to join us for our School Meeting at 8:15 a.m. After School Meeting, we would invite veteran to visit individual classrooms where the students have worked with their teacher to put together some age appropriate questions to ask their visitors.
If you are an OCRS family member that is a veteran and you would like to join us on Friday morning for about an hour starting at 8:15, please email Mr. Barrette at pbarrette@smithfield-ps.org.
Veterans Day Donation Drive, 11/4 through 11/14
OCRS is teaming up with the Smithfield High School National Honor Society to hold a Veteran's Day donation drive for our Active Service Members. The SHS National Honor Society has organized a collection drive to gather donations to be sent to our Active Service Members this holiday season and they need our help!
There are cardboard boxes located in the front hallway at OCRS labeled with each grade level, K-5. We are asking that each OCRS family donate one item listed for their child's grade level as listed below, in order to ensure that we have enough donations. Items can be brought to school by students and placed in the box for their grade level.
Approved items for each grade level are:
Kindergarten: toothbrushes
Grade 1: Playing cards
Grade 2: Toothpaste
Grade 3: Granola bars
Grade 4: Socks
Grade 5: Travel size mouthwash
Although we know that your heart is in the right place, please do not send in any items that are not on the above list. The members of the SHS National Honor Society have been working with the various branches of the service to identify what items are really needed. Also, if you are unable to donate, we appreciate you support by passing this information along.
School Picture Retakes, Wednesday 11/13
Lifetouch school picture retakes and for students who missed the original school picture day are taking place on the morning of Wednesday, 11/13. Mrs. Deus will be sending order forms home with students that missed the first picture day. Order envelopes are also available in the school office OR families can order online at http://mylifetouch.com, enter Picture Day ID RI319158Q1.
If there is a problem with the package from original picture day or wish to request a refund, please call Lifetouch at 401-828-5220. Please do not return the package to the school.
PTA Meeting Rescheduled for Wednesday, 11/13 at 7:00 p.m.
The PTA Meeting that was scheduled for this Thursday, 11/7 is being rescheduled for Wednesday, 11/13 at 7:00 p.m. The 5th grade committee meeting that was scheduled for this Thursday, 11/7 at 6:00 p.m. is still taking place as planned.

Lifetouch school picture retakes are taking place on the morning of Wednesday, 11/13. A notice with the information regarding the retakes was sent home this past week.
PTA General Membership Meeting, Wednesday 11/13 at 7:00 p.m.
There will be an OCRS PTA General Membership meeting held on Wednesday, 11/13 at 7:00 p.m. in the OCRS Library. All parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend. This meeting is being rescheduled from its original date of Thursday, 11/7.
NO SCHOOL, Professional Development Day, Thursday 11/14
There is NO SCHOOL for students on Thursday, November 14th. Teachers will be attending professional development on this day.
