I hope that you are having a terrific weekend. It's hard to believe that we're going into the last week of January. After the holidays, the school year always seems to accelerate. We are now more than halfway done with this school year, so it's important for all students, staff, and families to maintain our focus on the learning that are taking place in classrooms each and every day.

Be Your BEST at OCRS!
Over the past two weeks, all of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms partnered up with the Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classrooms to read "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?". It was wonderful to watch the older students reading to the younger students. Our goal is to reinforce and put into practice the message of the book to be a "bucket filler" as part of our "Be Kind" focus. Below is a video of the author, Carol McCloud, reading the book out loud. We would love for OCRS families to watch this video and discuss the message of the book together.
American Heart Association student postcard contest
Materials were sent home with students for the American Heart Association student postcard contest. This contest is completely voluntary, but we would love to see OCRS students from each grade level submit entries. The deadline for students to submit their postcard entry at OCRS is the morning of Tuesday, January 28th. Please see the attached flyer for more details and the official rules.
Family Wellness Celebration, Wednesday 1/29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The is a Family Wellness Celebration for families from all four elementary schools being held at Smithfield High School on Wednesday, 1/29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. At this event, families will have an opportunity to:
- Participate in activities from Recess Rocks!
- Learn calming techniques
- Sample nutritious Mood Boost foods from Chartwells, our food service provider
- Celebrate our grade-level winners of the American Heart Association’s postcard contest
Mr. Barrette and the other elementary principals will be in attendance to join the celebration and announce the grade-level winners of the American Heart Association student postcard contest. Please see the attached flyer for additional details.

OCRS Spirit Day, Monday January 27th
Each and every Monday we are encouraging OCRS students and staff to wear their OCRS Spirit Gear to school!
Family Wellness Night, Wednesday January 29th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
There will be a Family Wellness Night for all four elementary schools on Wednesday, January 29th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Smithfield High School. All OCRS families are invited and encouraged to attend!
SurveyWorks for Families, 2/3 through 2/14
The annual SurveyWorks online survey will be open for OCRS families beginning on Monday, February 3rd through Friday, February 14th. More information, details, and the link will be sent to families prior to February 3rd.
District Spelling Bee, Tuesday 2/4 at 9:45 a.m.
The district Spelling Bee is being held on Tuesday, February 4th at 9:45 a.m. at LaPerche Elementary School. Good luck to all participants!
NO SCHOOL, Winter Recess, Monday 2/17 through Friday 2/21
There will be no school for Winter Recess on Monday, 2/17 through Friday, 2/21.
