Hello OCRS Families,
A final update before the weekend!
Reminder about tomorrow, 4/3 Staff PD Day
There is online learning for students on Friday 4/3 and Friday 4/17, but there won't be any "live" teaching via video because the teachers and staff will be participating in professional development on those days.
- Teachers will post a few low-key activities in Google Classroom for students to engage in on these Fridays. Some examples will be to finish up owed work, read to someone in your house (or read silently), play a math game, draw something that you learned about this week, etc.
- Students do NOT need to adhere to any specific schedule or time requirements tomorrow or on Friday, 4/17. We know that students and families could use a break and may appreciate a less structured day to end the week.
- Please don't forget to sign your child into the online attendance form on these two days because Smithfield is still counting 4/3 and 4/17 as school days.
Having some fun together as a school community
One of the hardest things for all OCRS teachers and staff has been that we miss seeing your children at school each day. We typically start each day together as a school community with a School Meeting and on Fridays, we spend an extra few minutes together singing some "Silly Songs".
We would like to try to continue to have some fun together as a school community during these challenging times and we're going to start tomorrow! When students login to Google Classroom, they may have noticed that they were invited to join a Classroom called "OCRS Rocks!" Starting tomorrow morning, I will be posting some videos of a "Silly Song" that we typically sing together as a school. I will post AT LEAST one video per week. There also may be some posts from other OCRS staff!
I would like to encourage OCRS students to login to the "OCRS Rocks!" Classroom, watch the videos, and have some fun teaching our school songs to others in their family. I know that I will (and do) look ridiculous in the videos, but that's OK. I want OCRS students to know that, even though our regular school routine has changed, there are some things that have not changed, including being a little silly together.
I would LOVE for families to send me pictures of kids doing the movements of the songs or teaching them to their family. I would like to share these pictures regularly with the OCRS community to help us all keep our spirits up and laugh a little together during this difficult time. Let's have some fun together, even if we can't be together!
Thanks,
Mr. Barrette
