Busy week @ SHS counseling office. Students learned about early college enrollment courses they can take in high school, college admissions counselors are meeting with interested students, & Mr. Jackson provided tips on high school success to 9th graders. Great opportunities!

Due to the expected extreme heat conditions Thursday, Sept 7, the Smithfield Public Schools will have a 2-hour early dismissal for grades K-12. PM preschool and the YMCA After School Programs are cancelled. Your principals will be sending you a message regarding the dismissal time for your schools. Administrators will be in our schools until the end of the day to ensure that all students are able to arrive home safely. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Thank you. Students will be dismissed two hours early on Thursday, September 7th. For GMS, this means an 11:55am dismissal time. Lunch will be served prior to dismissal.

All GMS sports have been cancelled for today and tomorrow (Sept. 6th and 7th). Scheduled sports events for Friday, Sept. 8th will take place as planned. Also, our Open House scheduled for tomorrow evening has been rescheduled to Tuesday, September 19th from 6-8pm.

The Smithfield Public Schools are closed on Monday, Sept. 4 in recognition of Labor Day and Tuesday, Sept. 5 for special primary elections voting. We are open on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Our developing Innovation Centers include multimedia computers, 3D printers, gaming chairs, podcasters, & green screens starting in our elementary schools. The equipment has been purchased through our grant applications @SmithfieldSchls

Scoring their 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth, Smithfield never gave up in their 9-3 loss to California. As Coach Gibree stated, "You're one of the top 5 teams in the country; top 10 in the world." You should be as proud of yourselves as we are of you. Congratulations!

Did you watch the nail biter of a game today? If not, you missed a great game. Tied going into the sixth, Smithfield scores 5 runs in the top of the frame. Great pitching and fielding shuts down the Pennsylvania bats. Final score 7-2. Next game: Tuesday @7pm. CONGRATS!

It was a great effort by our Smithfield Little League team in their game against Tennessee this afternoon. Despite the loss, the team has a 1-1 record and continues to play in the World Series. Next game: Sunday.
